The works indeed of this incompa rable author are equally the delight of our early and maturer years; and his life, though void of adventure, has been so often the subject of bio graphy, that it is not easy to discover a single circumstance of his existence which at this late period has been unexplored. On the present occa sion, therefore, nothing new can be expected; but the contemplation and praise of acknowledged excellence can scarcely produce fatigue by repe tition.
