Retells the famous legend of William Tell, who refused to kneel before the hat of an oppressive governor, was ordered to shoot an apple off of his son's head in punishment, and plotted to do away with the evil governor.

Leonard Everett Fisher, the creator of many distinguished books for children, has often been honored for his contribution to children's literature. In 1995 he gave the May Hill Arbuthnot Lecture; in 1991 he received both the Catholic Library Association's Regina Medal and the University of Minnesota's Kerlan Award; and in 1989 he was presented the Nonfiction Award by The Washington Post and the Children's Book Guild of Washington, D.C. Mr Fisher lives with his wife in Westport, Connecticut.
