The new edition of The Tapestry of Culture is excellent. The reconfiguration incorporates newer developments in the discipline without losing the integrity of the previous editions in its presentation. The topics and themes are introduced as concepts, and connected through discourse that is understandable for a student's first contact with anthropology. The authors weave the various concepts, theories, rituals, beliefs and practices into a unified whole. They integrate all aspects of cultural anthropology into a tapestry for learning and understanding this discipline. The most exciting thing about anthropology is that it enables the student to become acquainted with people of different cultures. The Tapestry of Culture provides the student with the basic concepts necessary to understand these different cultures while showing that cultural variations occur within certain limits. Though the forces of globalization have caused cultures of the world around us to become increasingly similar, the book shows that people nevertheless cling to ethnic identities, and their cultural distinctiveness.
