Although it has expanded considerably over the past 15 years, the global anti-money laundering (AML) regime has had a limited impact on both money laundering and associated crimes such as drug trafficking and the financing of terrorism. In this study, Reuter (criminology, U. of Maryland) and Truman (Institute for International Economics) look at the scale and characteristics of money laundering and assess the current AML regime.
