Willy Russell is one of our most outstanding modern playwrights. The format of this book about him is unusual in that 70 of its 120pp record an interview between Willy Russell and the book's author, John Gill. A large proportion of the book therefore is in Willy Russell's own words explaining the how, why and wherefore of why he wrote in a particular way - the perfect answer to those "Why do you think the author wrote...?" questions and thus invaluable to students studying his plays. The last portion of the book consists of brief comments on each of Willy Russell's works by John Gill who is Head of Drama at Merchant Taylors School in Liverpool and therefore an authority in his own right.
