Steve Hodel was born and raised in Los Angeles. He is a NYT bestselling author and his first book, Black Dahlia Avenger was nominated for a Mystery Writers of America Edgar Award in the True Fact category. Steve spent almost twenty-fours years with the LAPD, most of them as a homicide detective. During his tenure, he worked on more than three hundred murder cases, and had one of the highest "solve rates" on the force. He promoted to Detective III and retired from LAPD in 1986. The author's second true-crime book, MOST EVIL (Dutton 2009) was a Los Angeles Times bestseller. In 2012, Steve published Black Dahlia Avenger II, a six-year follow-up investigation to his original bestseller, which has been updated and revised in a 2014 edition.
