LETTER from Sir Richard Strachan to Mr. Pole, dated Kangaroo, in the West Scheldt, 12th August 1809. Sir, T HAVE the Honour to acquaint you, for the Information of the Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty, that, after closing my Letter this Evening, 1 had the Satisfaction of hearing that Lord Gardner with his Squadron had anchored off Dykeshook. Two other Line of Battle Ships have also anchored in the Weiling. The Centaur and Theseus have been dispatched off the'l'exel. I am concerned to state, that the Amethyst after passing Flushing got aground, and is not yet off. I have the Honour, &c. (Signed) R. J. Strachan. Honourable W. W. Pole. No. 24. LETTER from Sir Richard Strachan to Mr. Pole, dated Kangaroo, in the West Scheldt, August 13th J 809. Sir, T HAD dispatched Sir Home Popham with the-Sloops, Brigs, and Vessels named in the Margin, together with a light Flotilla, under Captains Lyford, Lowe, and Buck, up the West Scheldt, to found and buoy the Channels of that River, to enable the larger Ships to advance, for the Purpose of putting into Execution the ulterior Objects of the Expedi-tion. Sir Skylark. Harpy. Challenger. La Fleche. Pilot. Parthian. Daring. Thais. Cracker. Bloodhound. Galgo, Rock-et Ship. Sir Home Popham has executed this Service with his usual Judgement and Correctness. He informs me, that upon his Arrival off Batz, he found the Enemy's Gun Vessels had moved up to Lillo, with the fame Tide with which he had effected his Junction with Sir Richard Keat's Flotilla from the East; Scheldt. It appears that one of the Enemy's Gun Vessels was taken by the Parthian and the Boats of the advanced Sloop near Lillo, and the Fleet of the Enemy. I have the Honour to enclos...
