TO preach Christ is so unfashionableSerm.I. in our age, so much a term of rer PrMhcd proach, and so disagreeable to the '7 taste of many, who love to rank themselves among the polite, that nothing can more expose a man to their contempt and scorn than to attempt it. They seem as much to disdain him, as the Epicurean and Stoick Philosophers did the Apostle Paul, whom they ridiculed for preaching Jesus and tht resurrection, as if Actj xviL he were a setter forth of strange gods. This,8' was not much to be wonder'd at in men of their education, temper, and profession. But where is the sense or decency of persons calling themselves by Christ's name, and sneering at it, and doing what they can to thrust him out of their religion; or ro lessen him and their own concernment with him in it? This is really preposterous and amazing. But they that know Christ themselves, and are called. to preach him to others, have no reason to be afraid or asham'd to own him,...
