The following work was planned, and a cone siderable portion of it composed, nearly a year since, but the Author's other engage ments rendered it impossible for him, till very lately, to spare the time necessary for its careful revision. That a Manual of Political Science is now a want felt by many of the most enlightened educators of the day is well known, and it has been the Author's object and earnest desire to supply that want.
