Excerpt from Sermons and Discourses on the Following Subjects, Vol. 2

Next to the knowledge of God in Christ, the knowledge most desirable, and of the highest importance to us, is the knowledge of ourselves. Neither of these without the other can be complete, or serve any valuable purpose. The ground of which inseparable connection between the knowledge of God, and of man, are those necessary relations which the Beings themselves have one to the other. For how can we act conformably to these relations, if we have not first a good understanding of our own nature, and of the nature and will of our great Creator?
