Excerpt from A Tract on the Law of Nature: And Principles of Action in Man
I have therefore confined my tract to such general remarks on the subject, as are most necessary for the observation of my countrymen at large, with respect (more particularly) to one point, viz. the Illegality of reducing or subjecting mankind to involuntary servitude, either under political or private dominion: as all pretensions to an unlimited authority of any man or men over others, are contrary to Natural Equity and the Laws of God, as well as baneful to mankind in general; which effect is unhappily demonstrated by the numberless instances of unnatural oppression now prevailing to the destruction of mankind, in almost every part of the world.
