Ammian. Xvi. The orator Themifiius (iv. P.56, believed whatever was contained in the Imperial letters, which were addrefl'ed to the fenate of confiantinople. Aurelius Victor, who publifhed his Abridgment in the [aft year of Confiantiu s, afcribes the German viaories to the vi/dam of the Emperor, and the fizrtun: of the Cafar. Yet the hiflorian, foon afterwards, was indebted to the favour or cfieem of Julian for the honour of a brafi; flame; and the important ofiices of confular of the fecond Pannonia, and prefeét of the city.
