En prenant à Paddington le Great Western, nous pouvons visiter en peu de temps les localités Où séjournèrent les autres groupes plus importants. Sur cette grande ligne, le train nous lance, en sortant de Londres, dans une riche plaine au milieu de laquelle nous apercevons bientôt, au sud, la grande terrasse du château royal de Windsor, d'où le regard domine toutes les contrées envi fonnantes. Un peu plus loin nous sommes à Maidenhead, à. 20 milles de la capitale, et la ligne se bifurque une ligne secon daire se détache, qui nous conduira bientôt au nord - oust, a Beacons field et a Penn dans le voisinage, et au delà a Thame près d'oxford. En attendant, sur la ligne principale, le train nous emporte à l'ouest, jusqu'à Reading, à 13 milles plus loin. A Paddington, nous étions au nord de la Tamise; nous avons franchi le fleuve à Maidenhead, et à Reading, nous traversons son affluent méridional, la rivière nommée Kennet, qui arrose plusieurs quartiers de cette autre ville qu'il importe de visiter.
