On route there were fear, anger, rejections and near murder, all on the part of the woman, while the cat remained calm and dignified. They became firm friends. Along the way Kuen Shan took on two kittens and she met many more cats. Each one taught her a bit more about cats. She studied them, painted them extensively and observed that cats demonstrate wisdom and wits not dissimilar to ancient Chinese ways of thinking. She and Healey walked his chosen path together for more than 12 years. Their journey ended when she had to put H to sleep, to end his suffering from terminal cancer. However her love of cat continues with Joseph, whom Healey had helped bring up from kittenhood. The journey with her cats had helped her transformation from a city person to a devoted country dweller. It had also unexpectedly thrown up childhood emotional issues which had laid dormant for decades. Kwong Kuen-Shan is a Chinese artist and scholar born and brought up in Hong Kong. She works as a painter, translator of Chinese classics, and Chinese art teacher. Her previous books, The Cat and The Tao and The Philosopher Cat, in which she combines cat paintings with wise words from China, are international best sellers. Her current works are mainly Welsh landscapes and animal drawings. She lives in Wales with her husband and their cat Joseph. Her new book, "The Cat Who Loved Me – and Made Me Love Him", is the true story of how Healey, a Welsh farm cat, successfully force-adopted her, changed her from a certified cat phobic to a devoted cat lover, and helped her settle in the Welsh countryside.
