'The Garden of Sparkling Delight,' is a story of both light and shadow. Shadow first comes in the person of a man who prowls around remote villages in Brazil looking though windows at the inmates especially the young girls. There are shadows too in the back streets of the big city where abuse and cruelty go unnoticed. In contrast to this are the love, loyalty and sacrifice of two happy families whose bonds are unbreakable. Both light and shadow eventually mingle bringing hope to bleak and abandoned lives and dignity to those caught in dehumanizing poverty. Several years ago, I attended a lecture given by an organisation called ECPAT which campaigns on behalf of children trafficked into prostitution. Up to that point I had been unaware of this problem. What I heard that day made me blazingly angry that such things should happen to million’s of women, girls and boys worldwide. But what should I do? So I sat down and wrote this story.
