When the tree tells them that it is shading them from the harsh sun, they learn to be thankful for their blessings. When a sweet rancher's wife finds a pressed flower, she realizes that the memory of a good deed never dies.

With these witty and sometimes hilarious stories, children discover the importance of honesty and fairness while learning about life and tradition in the Wild West.

David Davis, known for his keen sense of humor and lyrical style, has contributed several titles to Pelican's Night Before Christmas Series and is the author of Rock 'n' Roll Dogs, Texas Mother Goose, and Texas Zeke and the Longhorn. His books Ten Redneck Babies and Jazz Cats were both named to the Children's Choice Top 100 List. A finalist for the Texas Golden Spur Award, Jazz Cats was also a selection of the Accelerated Reader Program. Davis has published pen-and-ink artwork, cartoons, poems, humor, and short stories in various magazines and newspapers. He won the Mississippi Press Association award in 1996 for his political cartoons. An active speaker and presenter, Davis lives in Forth Worth, Texas.

Sue Marshall Ward studied art at Arlington State College, now the University of Texas at Arlington, and began a long career in art direction, advertising, and illustration. Though experienced in many fields of art, she finds the most enjoyment in illustrating children's books. She is the illustrator of the award-winning Ten Redneck Babies as well as Sugar Lump's Night Before Christmas and Texas Mother Goose. A member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators, Ward lives in Arlington, Texas, with her husband.
