With a dedication to the poem To An Athlete Dying Young by A.E. Housman, A Stiller Man examines the life of Russell Drummond, who grew up on a mountain in southeast Tennessee during WWII. Russell learned life lessons from his parents, his church, and through playing golf as he generally struggled through childhood trying to understand the world and its meanings. Graduating from college, he began a business, and was determined to do whatever was needed to achieve his goal - becoming as successful as his father - no matter what the consequences were. Laurel, his girlfriend, used her family's high-society connections to help grow his business, and Russell was willing to take advantage of her efforts. Through his experiences with Laurel, and with golf, he finally understood how far he had drifted from his moral foundation as well as how high the costs for his actions were. He also had to determine if there's any redemption for the errors made in his life, and if so, how to earn it.
