It shows how war affected the daily lives of local Warwickshire people - food rationing; the horrors of enemy bombing, especially the devastating German raid on Coventry in November 1940; and the long, hard and unremitting work in the many aircraft and munitions factories producing Spitfires, Whitleys, Lancasters, Stirligns and Mosquitoes. Castle Bromwich was at the centre of the nation's vital Spitfire production and through the war years Frank Whittle and his team worked from their base near Rugby to develop the jet engine.
