In recent years, "social" housing has experienced a major shift of theoretical and practical concerns which the existing literature has yet to grasp in an integrated manner. An important element of this development has been the creation and growing influence of a central government intiative known as Estate Action. No research has been conducted or published on this recent policy initiative in the field of housing. Therefore, this book seeks to contribute to the literature on social housing by evaluating Estate Action and discussing the impact it has had on council house management, finance and central-local relations in Britain.
