This beautifully illustrated guide to the sport of deep-sea game fishing concentrates on fish species that are listed by the International Game Fish Association (IGFA), including marlin, barracuda, tuna and swordfish. The book begins with a historical overview of the sport and moves on to conservation issues and the threat of commercial harvesting of species. The following chapters cover the major big-game fish species around the world. Scientific classification (accompanied by identification photo-graphs) is included along with distribution, habits, weights, game fishing tackle and techniques; and boat equipment and safety. The second half of the book then gives a general overview of big-game fishing centres world-wide, encompassing the Americas, Europe, Australasia, Africa and the Indian Ocean Island groups. Interspersed throughout the text are facts and lively anecdotes about the feats of famous big-game fishermen.

Len Cacutt has been involved in writing and editing books on fishing since 1962. He has edited, amongst other publications on angling, the Collins Encyclopedia of Fishing, the Collins Pocket Guides to Freshwater and Saltwater Fishing, Fisherman's Weekly magazine, Hamlyn's Encyclopaedia of Fishing and Basic Guide to Angling.
