Erstausgabe
First American Edition. Tall octavo (23.5cm); tan cloth, with red and gilt spine label; 10-196+4pp, portrait (w/ facsimilie signature), frontispiece. Spine tanned, label chipped; boards soiled and worn, mild rubbing and bumps to extremities. Ex libris on front pastedown; textblock edges scratched; interiors smudged and foxed throughout; signatures unevenly bound. Else Very Good. This is a somewhat scarce American edition of Wilkie Collins' Poor Miss Finch, his sensation novel about a young blind woman who regains her sight but ends up in a bizarre love triangle between herself and twin brothers, one of whom has turned dark blue as a result of dosing silver nitrate. Collins dedicated this novel to his contemporary (and mutual friend of Charles Dickens), travelogue writer Francis Minto Elliot. B/w illustrations throughout. With a 4pp publisher's catalogue following the text.

Verlag: Bernhard Tauchnitz, Leipzig, 1872
Anbieter: Attic Books (ABAC, ILAB), London, ON, Kanada
Hardcover. Zustand: Very good. Copyright Edition. Collection of British Authors, Tauchnitz Edition. Vol. 1200. 2 vols. in 1. 320, 294p. 15.5 cm blue hardcover binding cloth spine, marbled paper boards. The first Baron Tauchnitz, Christian Bernhard (1816-1895) began this publishing firm, providing English-language editions to Continental European readers. What was innovative was that his editions were produced with the legal consent of authors and publishers in England and the Americas. With copyright secured, he was able to produce books of a much higher quality than the cheaply produced black -market versions that were his only competition. While originally sold unbound, this edition was bound, nicely preserving the copy within. This edition was released in Europe the very same year as the novel was released to British Readers.
