Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. Three books bound together. 24mo. 149mm. Pp. [2] iii - xxxvi,1 - 699 [1] ; [4], 1 - 591 [1] ; [2] 3 - 63[1]. All printed on India Paper. All edges gilt. Title page of the Book of Common Prayer printed in red and black as are sections of the text and capital letters. Contents clean, India Paper leaves occasionally very lightly creased, as usual. Elegant and superbly crafted black morocco binding, corners very slightly bumped. The covers with an outer triple thin fillet gilt frame enclosing an adjacent floral frame of stems of small dots and circles. The spine with five raised bands and similar designs in the five gilt double thin fillet compartments. The title is lettered direct. Watered silk endpapers , the front pastedown with the turn-in enclosed by a similar outer frame as the covers , and in the centre a gilt printed presentation inscription - 'Rosemary Graham on her confirmation from Gertrude Harris July 22. 1910. the year of the Great War.' The front turn in is signed, printed - J & E Bumpus Ltd 350 Oxford St.' at the lower end The front endpaper is chipped around the edges. The rear pastedown has a similar turn-in to the front but no inscription. Overall, very good plus copy. The firm J. & E. Bumpus, established in 1838, had a reputation for producing book bindings of the highest order but never actually bound a book themselves ! The work was sub-contracted out to the most gifted binders of the time which included Morrell, Riviere, and Sangorski and Sutcliffe etc. The Book of Common Prayer is not located in Griffiths.

The full title of the work to the rear is: The Whole Book of Psalms, Collected into English Metre, by Thomas Sternhold, John Hopkins, and Others; Conferred with the Hebrew. With a seperate title page. Stereotype Edition. With the bookplate of Ronald Cuttell to the front free-endpaper. In a full morocco leather binding. Externally, some shelfwear. Internally, firmly bound, with tidemarks to the lower half of the pages, that does not affect legibility of the text. The title page has slight loss to the lower half, that does not affect the text, and has been professionally repaired. There is a small ink number to the top margin of the title page, and an ink inscription to the rear free-endpaper. Very Good. book.

Bourgeois 32mo edition. On the first blank is written - 'Margaret Compton, from her loving Godmother E Camilla Gurdon, Dec 1892'. Most likely to be Lady Eveline Camilla Gurdon ( nee Wallop ). Lady Eveline [ 1858 - 1894 ], was a daughter of the 5th Earl of Portsmouth. She married Sir William Brampton Gurdon, whose home was at Assington Hall, Suffolk, in 1887. She was the author of many stories and articles based on East Anglian folklore. Margaret Compton is possibly Lady Margaret Louisa Lizzie Compton [ 1886 - 1970 ], daughter of William George Spencer Scott Compton, 5th Marquess of Northampton. 225 grams.

Diamond 48 edition. A small ( each volume is approx 3.5 inches tall & 2 inches wide , the pair together 1.5 inches thick ) liturgical & devotional set, nicely typset in a miniscule font. 225 grams.
