Illustrated with a steel engraved portrait of Charles Edward Stuart, a folding copper-engraved map of Scotland and three folding copper-engraved plans as called for. Half calf and early nineteenth century orange marbled paper over boards; 5 raised spine bands with blind ornaments to spine compartments, red morocco spine label and gilt spine titles; with matching orange marbled endpapers. Sympathetically re-backed, damp staining to the folding plates and facing leaves otherwise a square, tight, bright and remarkably clean copy contents free of foxing, annotations or inscriptions. With an early nineteenth century armourial bookplate bearing ink inscription "Wodehouse Kimberly 1838" to front paste-down. Compelling history of the 1745 Jacobite Rebellion by Scottish playwright John Home. Home draws from his rather dramatic direct experience of the rebellion; having volunteered for the British Army in Scotland, Home was captured by the Jacobites at the Battle of Falkirk Muir and made his escape from Doune Castle via a blanket-rope. With plans depicting the battle's of Preston, Falkirk, and Culloden.
