Reliure de l époque en basane, richement fleurdelisée et aux armes de la ville de Reims. Dos à cinq nerfs avec titre en capitales dorées et caissons ornés de fleurs-de-lys. Roulette en encadrement des plats habillés d un semé fleur-de-lysé et frappés aux armes de la ville de Reims. Toutes tranches dorées. Le De Jure Belli ac Pacis est divisé en trois livres. D abord, il est question de l origine du droit, des raisons de la guerre et des différences entre guerres publiques et privées. Ensuite, ce sont les causes des guerres qui sont exposées. C est dans ce deuxième livre que Grotius traite de la propriété, des règles des successions sur les trônes, des pactes et contrats, des serments et des alliances. Enfin, le dernier livre aborde la délicate question de ce qui est permis durant une guerre. Magnifique exemplaire.

A fine copy of the third edition of Schefferus compendium about Hugo Grotius and his ?De jure belli et pacis?, over which Schefferus held lectures in 1671. The first was published posthumously and anonymously in 1693. A second was published in 1718 with Schefferus named as author. This third is published and augmented by Jan Gerhard Wichers.
