Hardcover. First Edition. Octavo, [6], [8], xi, [1], 225, [1], xi, [1], 275, [1], vii, [1], 75 pages. In Very Good minus condition. Publisher's green paper boards toned to black, with a printed paper tan label and black lettering. Boards show significant toning and light soiling overall, splitting to paper along joints, moderate plus age-toning and wear to spine label, and significant wear to edges and head/tail of spine. Textblock has moderate wear to bottom edge, moderate age-toning to edges generally, and light sporadic foxing to pages throughout interiorly. Engraved frontispiece by J. T. Wedgwood, with portraits of the three poets printed on india paper and mounted onto a blank leaf. Six pages of publishers' ads at front. Text printed in double columned pages. Shelved in Case 0. This volume constitutes the first collected edition of Keats and only the second collected works of Coleridge & Shelley (although only volume 1, issued in 5 parts, of the 1826 edition of Shelley's works was issued and the edition was not completed) and contains works published here for the first time from all three poets. Each poets work is preceded by a short life of the author. The memoir of Keats is by Leigh Hunt. Although Keats' literary executor, Charles Armitage Brown disliked Hunt's portrayal of his friend, his own account of Keats life was not ready in time for this edition and would not see publication for another 108 years in 1937. He did, however send some unpublished poems in his possession for inclusion in the volume. The memoir of Shelley was written by Mary Shelley, who also helped the publication of this edition by allowing the publisher access to his papers. Although this volume was published by the Galignanis in Paris, avoiding the British copyright and meaning no royalties would be due, they did have the co-operation of family members and literary friends of all three poets when assembling this impressive volume. 1268602. Shelved Dupont Bookstore.

Hinges repaired internally. New front free endpaper. Bookplate and ink inscription on front pastedown. Ink stamp on bookplate and title page. Foxing. This volume constitutes the first collected edition of Keats and the second collected works of Coleridge and Shelley. The Parisian publisher, Galignani, was famous for its pirated editions (Sir Walter Scott referred to the shop as the "old pirate's den") but the firm did have the cooperation of family members and literary friends of all three poets when assembling this volume. For example, each poet's work is preceded by a short life of the author, the memoir of Keats being produced by Leigh Hunt. Hunt also sent along some unpublished Keats poems in his possession to be included. Keats' literary executor, Charles Armitage Brown, disliked Hunt's portrayal of his friend, but Brown's own biography of Keats was not ready in time for this edition and was not published until 1937. The memoir of Shelley was written by his wife Mary Shelley who also helped the publication of this edition by allowing the publisher access to Shelley's papers.
