Joints worn too with splits. Scratched, rubbed and marked overall. Gilt is bright.

Leather. Zustand: Good. None (illustrator). A finely-bound twelve-volume set of The Poetical Works of Walter Scott, Esq. The first collected edition. Including The Lay of the Last Minstrel, Marmion, The Lady of the Lake, Rokeby, and many others. After Scott had founded a printing press, his poetry, beginning with The Lay of the Last Minstrel brought him fame. He published a number of other poems over the next ten years, including the popular The Lady of the Lake. Whilst Scott is considerably more popular as an author, his poetry is not to be overlooked. In 1813, Scott was offered the position of Poet Laureate. He declined, and the position went to Robert Southey. With an engraved frontispiece of Scott to the first volume. Bookplate of Thomas Fell to front pastedown. Complete in twelve volumes In green straight-grained morocco binding with gilt detailing. Externally, sound, though rubbed, and with some marks. Spines are sunned. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright, though with some scattered instances of foxing. Good. book.

The most complete collection of Scott's Poetry to date, which includes Songs and Fragments and various specimens from the Memoirs as well as the Metrical Romances and Miscellaneous Pieces, the former of which were not printed in earlier editions of Scott's work, presented here in a superb fine binding.
