Softcover. Zustand: Good. Magazine. Vol. 3, No. 11, November, 1838. Octavo. In the original printed wrapper, with a contemporary small owner's name in ink on the front cover. The wrapper is toned and lightly soiled, lower right corner is bumped, good or better with light foxing. Contains a long review (pp. 195-232), of Henry Carey's *The Credit System of France, Great Britain, and the United States*. Celebrated today as the first American economist, Carey promoted the idea of a protectionist "American system" - a combination of high tariffs and improvements of infrastructure, a national currency and balanced budgets that he asserted was essential for American economic development. It was held up in contrast to the "British system" of laissez faire free-trade. A scarce, well-preserved issue in the original wrapper.
