Account of a visit to the Leeward Islands, Jamaica and Cuba by Gurney, abolitionist and campaigner for the emancipation of slaves. Gurney was a well-known Quaker and banker from Norwich. He was the brother of Elizabeth Fry, the famous social and prison reformer, and the brother-in-law of Thomas Fowell Buxton, well-known anti-slavery crusader. Cloth a little faded on extremities, with one or two minor repairs to spine, which is slightly pulled at top and bottom, very slight foxing on plates, otherwise internally very clean, contemporary ink inscription on endpaper.
