First published in 1750.In a contemporary calf binding. Rebacked.With headpieces, tailpieces and illuminated letters.This work was written by English physician John Huxham. Huxham was best known for his study of fevers and received the Copley Medal for his contributions to medicine. The first half of this work, 'An Essay on Fevers', is Huxham's best known work, and helped to gain him the award. In a contemporary calf binding. Rebacked. Externally generally smart with the odd mark to the boards and discolouration, bumping and rubbing to the extremities of the boards resulting in minor loss to the leather. Offsetting to the extremities of the endpapers with light scattered spotting. Internally firmly bound with generally bright and clean pages with offsetting to the title page and to the first couple of pages and the odd spot. Fading to the red fore-edge. Very Good. book.

Contemporary calf. xvi, 336 pp. small piece torn from top of title page, wear to binding, no endpapers, internally very good. Early ownership signatures including that of American physician John C. Otto (1774-1844). The first and second editions were both published in 1750, and both had 288 pages. "Huxham's best work.This book included the first use of the word 'influenza' by an English physician," Garrison-Morton 2201 referring to the first edition.
