Leather. Zustand: Good. Not Stated (illustrator). A smart copy of this scarce history of England, based on the history written by David Hume. Scarce work. Twenty-third thousand. Illustrated with a frontispiece and many in-text images. A history of England from the earliest times to the Revolution of 1688, with corrections in research continued to the year 1858. Includes chapters on the Britons, Romans, and Anglo-Saxons, the Anglo-Norman kings, the foundation of English liberty, the House of Tudor, the House of Stuart, and the Revolution. Based on the history by David Hume, a Scottish Enlightenment philosopher, historian, economist, librarian, and essayist. Bound in half calf with patterned boards. Externally, sound with rubbing and light loss to the extremities. Fading to the spine and the odd mark to the boards. Cracks to the joints. Hinges starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with light scattered spotting. Previous owner's bookplate to the front endpaper. Sympathetic reinforcements to the title page made with tape. Good. book.
