Cloth. Zustand: Near Fine. Various (illustrator). A scarce, limited edition study of Norwich Cathedral. With clean illustrations throughout, and retaining the scarce slipcase which is in an unusually smart condition. Number 66 of 1,000 copies printed. This work looks at the Norwich Cathedral at the end of the eighteenth century. Loosely inserted is a promotional leaflet for a publication by the Basilisk Press, London: 'The Red Books of Humphry Repton'. With a detailed preface, and introduction which highlights the architects William Wilkins Sr and John Adey Repton, whose drawings are used to this work. There are sixteen plates to this work total, including several folding plates. All plates depict different areas of the Cathedral such as the Gothic Screen, West Elevation, St Ethelbert's Gate, Cloisters, and Dormitory. Collated, complete. Each design has an accompanying technical description of the drawing, descriptions from William Wilkins' manuscript and supplementary notes. The construction of Norwich Cathedral began in 1096 before its completion in 1145. It has the second largest cloisters in England, only exceeded by Salisbury Cathedral. In the publisher's original cloth binding, with original slipcase. Externally, in a very bright condition with just a few light marks to the front board. Slipcase is very smart with just some minor rubbing to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean. Slipcase is VERY GOOD INDEED. Near Fine. book.
