Volume XII of Alfred Howard's 'Beauties of Literature' series, originally published in fifteen volume.This volume includes a selection of the works of Edward Gibbon and William Robertson.Howard selects pieces of the eminent author's works to showcase their brilliance in literature and historical writings.Illustrated with a portrait frontispiece to each part.Gibbon and Robertson each have a separate title page and pagination. In a half calf binding with marbled paper to the boards. Externally, a little worn, with loss of leather to the extremities , and a little loss of paper. Spine is faded. Leather is lightly rubbed, heavier to the extremities and to the head of the spine, minor rubbing to the boards. Light bumping to the extremities. Small crack to the head of the front joint. Front hinge is starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean with scattered spots, heavier ot the plates, with heavier spotting to the Gibbon frontispiece, offset to the title page. Good. book.
