Hardback. Zustand: Good. None (illustrator). A very scarce English translation of the classic of French gastronomic literature. By an important restauranteur who at one point served as the personal chef of King Louis XVIII. This is the very scarce third edition of this work. Scarce in all editions, this work saw its first edition in English, translated from the original French, in 1924. The work of Antoine B. Beauvilliers, a pioneering restauranteur who opened the first prominent grand restaurant in Paris. Of humble parentage, Beauvilliers worked his way up from kitchen boy to become the chef of Monsieur, the Count of Provence and future King Louis XVIII. In 1814 he first published this work in French, with it instantly becoming a classic of French gastronomic literature. With a twelve page publisher's catalogue to the start of the work.Contemporary inscriptions to the front pastedown. In the original paper covered boards. Ink inscription to front board. Both joints fairly weak. Some vertical cracks to paper back strip, with significant loss to head and tail. Contemporary inscriptions to front pastedown. Internally, generally firmly bound through a little strained in places. Pages generally clean and bright. Good. book.
