Vincent Bourne, familiarly known as Vinny Bourne (1695, Westminster December 2, 1747) was an English classical scholar. His Latin poems are, a number of them, translations of English poems. Cowper, an old pupil of Bourne's, James Beattie, and Charles Lamb, praised of his power of Latin versification. With bookplate of Bernard Warrington to front pastedown. Rebound in cloth, with the original board preserved. Externally, sound, though with some marks and discolouration to the original cloth. Internally, generally firmly bound although strained in places. Ink signature to front free-endpaper. Pages are bright, though with some scattered foxing throughout. Good. book.

A nicely bound collection of Vincent Bourne's Latin poems, both his own poetry and his translations of other poems into Latin, with a life of Bourne by John Mitford. A collection of the Neo-Latin poetry of Vincent Bourne, as well as the translations of Bourne's. The translations include poems by G. Row, J. Gay, R. Crawford, Prior, and Addison. The poems are in Latin, with an English translation printed to the facing page. With a life of Bourne, written by the Reverend John Mitford. Mitford was a man of letters and clergyman. Vincent Bourne was a classical scholar. This was the last known edition of his poems, after which he was little noticed. William Cowper said that Bourne was a better Latin poet than Tibullus and Ausonius. In a full calf binding. Extermally, smart. A little rubbing to the joints and extremities. A little fading to the rear board. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Very Good Indeed. book.
