(Twenty-two total engravings.) Rebound in half calf trimmed in gilt over marbled boards. Gilt title to black and burgundy panels and five raised bands to spine. Gilt decorative floral design to spine compartments. Bindery stickers to front pastedowns. New endpapers. Light foxing to engravings. Light age-toning throughout. Unmarked interiors. Bindery sticker is that of Sydney Aiken of County Down. The author's final (unpaginated) page statement announces that the plates for Volume II would be included in a third volume. A third volume was never published, and the plates were instead included in this first edition of Volume II. "Volumes 1 and 2 of 'Beauties of Ireland: being original delineations, topographical, historical, and biographical of each county. In three volumes'. Only volumes 1 and 2 were published: volume 1 in 1825, and volume 2 in 1826. Publisher name varies: volume 1 publisher name is recorded as Sherwood, Jones & Co.; volume 2 publisher name is recorded as Sherwood, Gilbert, & Piper. He wrote many romances and topographical compilations also contributed to the series called the Beauties of England and Wales.

The very scarce first edition, large paper copy of English topographer and antiquarian James Norris Brewer's illustrated early nineteenth century study of Gloucestershire. Illustrated with an engraved frontispiece and forty-eight further plates printed on India Paper, engraved by J. and H. Storer. Collated, complete.Undated; with the engraved title page dated 1824, the following twenty-seven plates dated 1825, and the remaining plates dated between 1825 and 1827.Wonderfully described by J. N. Norris, the 'principal seats of nobility and gentry' are engraved and described, with locations including Gatcombe Park, Highgrove, Prinknash Abbey, and Chavenage House depicted.Published in twelve parts, the front wrap of the first part is bound in to the front of the work, with the rear wrap bound in to the rear.A faint pencil inscription from H. W. Bruton to the front endpaper states 'this is the finest copy of the book I have ever seen. It is in the original Large Paper issue published on India paper published in twelve parts'.With the bookplate of Robert Frederick Green, 1909, to the front pastedown.A lovely copy of a very scarce work. In a half crushed morocco binding, with marbled paper covered boards. Fading to back strip, with a touch of rubbing to front joint. Front hinge starting, with board holding firm. Bookplate to front pastedown. Inscription to verso of front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright, with light spotting throughout, most concentrated to plate perimeters. Very Good. book.
