Erstausgabe
First edition, first printing, of this collection with enigmatic origins. Major Thomas Brook (1881-1965) served in the Liverpool Regiment 1902-15 and in the Indian Army 1915-19. The eight sketches depict "The Port of Busra - 1918", "Ashar Creek - Busra", "Arab Girl with Watering Pot", "Khalil Pasha Street - Baghdad", "Mosque near the Citadel - Baghdad", "A Bedouin Arab Camp", "A Storming Evening - Fuluja", and "Hit Town on the Euphrates River". This collection was likely self-published. We have traced a similar portfolio reproducing Brook's sketches of Bombay. 8 colour plates (90 x 140 mm), each mounted on brown paper with printed caption in black, all housed in brown paper portfolio (160 x 210 mm), front cover with title in black. Plates bright, one with small chip and creasing, mounts and portfolio with spots of soiling and creasing: a near-fine example.
