Sie stellte zwischen 1799 und 1848 wiederholt in der Royal Academy of Arts aus.Robert Batty (1789 London - 1848 London). Oft nur Captain Batty. Englischer Offizier, Maler, Zeichner, Aquarellist, Radierer und Illustrator. Brach ein Medizinstudium in Cambridge ab. Ging zur britischen Armee, kämpfte im Gardegrenadierregiment unter anderem in der Schlacht bei Waterloo und wurde Offizier, worauf seine Signatur 'Captain Batty' hinweist. 1822-33 unternahm er Reisen in die Niederlande, nach Belgien, Frankreich und Deutschland. Er fertigte zahlreiche Vedutenskizzen, die später von anderen Künstlern für seine Ansichtenwerke gestochen wurden. Rechts unten signiert: ENGRAVED BY MISS L. BYRNE Unterhalb der Darstellung betitelt.

Hardcover. Zustand: Fair. [6], 87 p. + plates. 43 engraved plates and vignettes. Cloth hardcover with small label at top front, some dampstains and spots on covers. Spine and front board detached from text block. Rear hinge cracked. Some foxing and dampstains within. British engraver Letitia Byrne (1779-1849) was the daughter and pupil of engraver William Byrne. Artistic talent ran in her family; all her five siblings also became artists, including her three sisters. Letitia was exhibiting at the Royal Academy at the age of 20, but reached real success when she etched the series of scenes for this book. The original artist who drew the scenes was the author, Paul Amsinck. Many well-known landmarks are to be found here, including the enormous house called Knole, Penshurst Place, and Hever Castle.

Also with original printed paper title label to upper board. Black ink ownership of H.A. Woodgate to first blank, otherwise a clean copy show moderate spotting to margins and plates. Recently re-cased, with some repairs to hinges and to spine head. Quite heavy wear to boards. Restored to an attractive, robust condition. Very good. Not to be confused with the expanded subscribers' edition of roughly 200 copies.
