A later edition of this work in a full morocco binding, with intricate gold tooling to the boards, spine and square. All edges gilt and decoratively gauffered. Binder's stamp of Webb & Hunt, Liverpool, to the verso of the front free end paper. Illustrated with twenty engraved vignettes from designs by J. M. W. Turner. Collated, complete.A beautiful collection of the poetry of the Scottish poet Thomas Campbell (1777-1844), edited with notes by the Reverend W. A. Hill. Campbell was best known for his didactic poem 'Pleasures of Hope', written in traditional heroic couplets. He was also known for his patriotic war songs 'Ye Mariners of England', 'The Soldier's Dream', 'Hohenlinden' and 'Battle of the Baltic'. All of these poems, and many more poetic works including his translations, are included in this anthology. In a full morocco binding. Externally generally smart, though faded to the spine, with insect damage causing small losses to the lower corner of each board. Joints are a little rubbed. Occasional small mark to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright with the odd spot. Very Good. book.
