First Edition of the first clear description of chronic constrictive pericarditis through Norman Chevers (1818-1886), a fine copy in original state of the complete number of the journal, with original printed wrappers and green cloth spine. "Chevers's article gave the first clear account of chronic constrictive pericarditis. "He discussed the compression effects of pericardial adhesions and he manner in which they restricted both systole and disastole of the heart, emphasitzing particularly the interference with diastole. Clevers believed that, when cardiac enlargement acompanied the occurrence of pericardial adhesions, some other cause for the enlagrement must be sought, such as valvular lesions. In fact he was of the opinion that constriction of the heart was capable of producing athrophy of the organ" Willius & Dry, pp.130-131 Garrison & Morton No.2752; Norman Col. 467.
