Erstausgabe
Cloth. Zustand: Very Good. Not Stated (illustrator). First edition. A new Bodley Head edition of the collected letters and memorials of Jane Welsh Carlyle, a celebrated letter-writer. A new edition of this work published by the Bodley Head, in two volumes, in the publisher's original cloth bindings. Ink inscription to the front free end paper of Volume I, dated 1910. Illustrated with a frontispiece and 7 plates to Volume I, and a frontispiece and 7 plates to Volume II. Collated complete. Jane Welsh Carlyle (1801-1866) was a Scottish writer. She did not publish any work in her lifetime, but was widely considered an extraordinary writer of letters, which are displayed in this two volume set. Virginia Woolf called her one of the "great letter writers," and Jane's husband Thomas Carlyle believed her to be a literary talent. In the publisher's original cloth bindings. Externally very smart, with a little wear to the spines, but otherwise colour is good and gilt is bright. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean, with some spotting to the first and last few pages, and to the fore edge, affecting the occasional page. Very Good. book.
