He spent much of his life, and all his working life, in Sarajevo, where he studied the fine arts at the Pedagogical Academy. As a scholarship-holder, he spent time in London in 1966, studying the English watercolourists. In his works he dealt with Aljamiado literature (Bosnian: ad?amijska knji?evnost); the history of Bosnia and Herzegovina, especially from the 9th to 10th century and from the 18th to 19th century; the Bosnian Church and expansion Islam in Bosnia; the Hamzevian movement; the position of cities in the Ottoman Empire.
