Buch
Originalkarton. Zustand: Wie neu. Februar 1839). (Klappentext) ISBN 3889400396 Sprache: Deutsch Gewicht in Gramm: 1550.

Erstausgabe
First Edition. 300 x 245mm. Hardcover in original gilt-stamped cloth, 338pp (with extra page 169-170 bound in as called for). Volume 8: a significant year for this art journal, which features the earliest known photograph ever to appear in a British mass-produced publication. The painstaking calotype process required each one to be produced separately, every issue containing a unique example. This volume's mounted Talbotype measures 100 x 80mm (facing page 143) depicting the roof and gardens of Mount Edgcumbe House & Country Park in Torpoint, Cornwall, residence of Caroline Augusta Edgcumbe, the half-sister of William Henry Fox Talbot, the originator of this Talbotype process who became known for his "sun pictures". The calotype is faded, as is common with all surviving examples, and is one of rarer varieties without any accompanying label text. This volume also contains two Anaglyptographs - a process invented by John Bate for reproducing artworks with raised surfaces such as the medallion and shield reproduced here: 'Science Trimming the Lamp of Life' depicting a medal design by the chief engraver of the Royal Mint, William Wyon, and 'Passages from Flaxman's Shield of Achilles'. Other plates include 'Black and Blue Eyes', a colour armorial chromolithograph entitled 'Parquetage', 'The Sisters' by C. W. Wass, 'The Blind Fiddler' engraved by C. W. Sharpe (after Sir David Wilkie), an untitled chromolithograph scene, 'The Comforter' engraved by John Smyth (after Ary Scheffer), a fold-out plate 'Battle of Islay: Painted by Horace Vernet', 'Judith' engraved by J. T. Templeton (after August Riedel), fold-out diagram illustrating James Baker Pyne's theories of the earth atmosphere's effects on colour, 'The Picture in the Collection of Samuel Rogers Esq.' (after Guido), 'La Vierge et L'Enfant Jesus', an untitled fine decorative plate, 'Spanish Flower Girl' engraved by John Henry Robinson (after Murillo), 'Sienal' drawn by W Brockendon. Previous owner's pencil notes to blank flyleaf, and slight discolouration to boards, corners bumped, and catalogue label to upper spine, otherwise tight. Pages are bright, but the paper of each plate suffers from a slight discolouration affecting the top inch. Very rare volume.
