First edition, first impression. This collection of essays, based on lectures delivered between 1901 and 1908, is arranged in chronological order to "show something of the progress of Eugenics during the last few years, and to explain [Galton's] own views upon its aims and methods, which often have been absurdly misrepresented" (p. iii). Octavo. Original green cloth, spine and front cover lettered in black, top edge green. Several tables and diagrams within text. Partially removed label to tail of spine; modern shelf mark in ink to rear free endpaper. Buch Erstausgabe
London : The Eugenics Education Society, 1909, kl.-8°, (1), 109, (1) pp., 1 Fig., orig. Leinenband. Erste Ausgabe! Inhalt: 1.: The Possible Improvement of the Human Breed under existing Conditions of Law and Sentiment. 2.: Eugenics, its Definition, Scope, and Aims. 3.: Restrictions in Marriage. 4.: Studies in National Eugenics. 5.: Eugenics as a Factor of Religion. 6.: Probability, the Foundation of Eugenics. 7.: Local Associations for Promoting Eugenics. "Durch die Herausgabe des Werkes Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, or the Preservation of Favored Races in the Struggle of Life seines Cousins Charles Darwin 1859 erhielt das Leben Francis Galtons eine neue Richtung.

Galton published several books on the role of sanitary engineering in the construction of hospitals and homes, as well as several reports on sewage and drainage. He was among the first and strongest supporters of the Parkes Museum and was chairman of its council from 1882 to 1888. He was also a member of the Sanitary Institute of Great Britain, and acted as chairman of its council from 1885 to 1887? (ODNB).
