This volume covers January-June 1893 of the fifth series and boasts a variety of articles on contemporary scientific development, on the diffusion of light, the fusion constants of The 'Philosophical Magazine and Journal of Science' is one of the oldest scientific journals published in English. This issue has articles by Heinrich Rubens, the German physicist known for his measurements of energy of black-body radiation leading to Marx Planck's discovery of radiation law. His article in this work is titled 'on the refraction of Rays of Great Wave-Lenth in Rock-salt, Sylvite and Fluorite'. There is also an article by William Pole on colour-blindness. Pole was elected as a fellow of the Royal Society for his work in this scientific capacity. Other articles include 'A necessary modification of Ohm's Law' by Fernando Sanford, 'A New Method of Treating Correlated Averages' by leading statistician Francis Ysidro Edgeworth and 'The equilibrium of Vis Viva' by Austrian physicist and philosopher who developed statistical mechanics. There are further works of hydrolysis, sound-waves, magnetic fields as well as proceedings of the geological society.
