Hard Cover. FIRST EDITION, one of only 500 copies. Octavo, pp. vii, [1], 302; 303, [1]. Publishers' original decorative cloth boards, with titles and decoration in green to spine and upper boards and primrose yellow endpapers; both volumes sympathetically re-backed with original spine laid-on. Covers a little scuffed, with wear at corners and spine tips; minor fraying to joints Vol II. Endpapers lightly soiled; Vol II lacks ffep, with minor repair top edge rfep. Leaves slightly toned, especially to edge; no annotation or inscriptions. The exceedingly rare first edition of the very first novel by Anglo-Irish literary partnership Edith Somerville and Violet Florence Martin, with Somerville using the pseudonym Geilles Herring for the first and only time and Martin using her nom de plume of Martin Ross.
