Tan leather boards. Gilt bordering on front and rear boards. Gilt lettering and decoration and raised bands on backstrip. Exterior is moderately worn, especially on backstrip, and has some light damage around edges. Backstrip is torn along front edge, and front board is loose. All edges gilt. Marbled end papers. Firm binding. Pages clean with some pencil markings and light foxing. Illustrations at front. Horace (65-8BC) was a Roman lyric poet writing during Augustus' reign. He wrote plentiful works, including his Odes, Satires, Epistles, Epodes and Ars Poetica. His work strongly influenced contemporaries such as Ovid and Propertius, as well as later writers such as Petrarch, Dante, Ben Jonson, John Dryden, Edward FitzGerald, and W. H. Auden. He is also held as being the first autobiographer in the world.In the original Latin.Bound in a pleasing contemporary leather binding with colourful marbled edges. In a full diced calf binding. Externally, generally smart, with some rubbing to the head and tail of the spine; extremities are slightly bumped. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean with just the odd spot.
