4to (26.5 x 22 cm), 2 pp, 30 lines of text. On discoloured and lightly creased and stained paper, with some chipping to extremities, but with text clear and entire. Humphry objects that 'It is not desirable that the Undergraduates at so early a period of their career, should be invited to compete together for a great prize.' He also feels that 'the Examination will actually attract many Candidates, and so will extensively unsettle the Freshmen in their first Term; will prevent them from attending quietly to the College Lectures, and will take them away from the Lecture Room entirely, during one week of the Term'. Together with a photocopy of the entry explaining the circumstances from Joseph Romilly's diary for 21 October 1846, and a photocopy of a Humphry ALS.
