Huxham took daily daily weather readings and correlated them with prevailing disease mortality in an effort to prove a link between these phenomena. His tract on Devonshire Colic [GM#2093], first published in 1739, is added to the first volume above. He gave a vivid account of the disorder but ascribed it erroneously to the tartar extracted from apples during the cider-making process. It was shown by Sir George Baker in 1767 that the culprit was the lead used to line cider presses in Devon.
