Cloth. Zustand: Very Good. Not Stated (illustrator). A very scarce copy of John Wycliffe's treatise on the Church, edited from the manuscripts with critical notes by Dr. John Loserth. A very scarce work in the publisher's original cloth binding. Bookplate to the front paste down, dated 1888. Blind stamps of the Public Library of Wiggan to the first blank page, title page, first page of the introduction, and last three pages. John Wycliffe (also spelled Wyclif, Wickliffe, etc.) (c1328-1384) was an English theologian, scholastic philosopher, biblical translator, Catholic priest, and Oxford University professor. Wycliffe questioned the privileges of the clergy, and is considered to be an important forerunner of Protestantism. This is Wycliffe's treatise 'On the Church', which first appeared in 1379. Dr John Loserth has edited this treatise from the manuscripts and added critical and historical notes. While the text is in Latin, F. D. Matthew has included English side-notes. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, fairly smart, with a little bumping to the extremities, and small losses to the head and tail of the spine. Hinges are slightly strained but are holding firm. Pages are uncut but generally bright and clean. Very Good. book.
