  • First title a translation of : Eloge historique de James Watt., Paris, 1834. Includes bibliographical references. Goldsmiths'-Kress no. 30922.2.2 - Proceedings of the public meeting held at Freemasons' Hall, on the 18th June, 1824, for erecting a monument to the late James Watt. London : John Murray, Albermarle Street.1824. First edition. Pamphlet. 8vo. ( 208mm. ) Pp. [3] iv - x [2], [1] 2 - 96. Introduction signed: C.H. Turner. Goldsmiths'-Kress no. 24379.3. 3 - HUGO, Reid. Remarks on certain statements regarding the invention of the steam engine, in M. Arago's historical eloge of James Watt. By . . Glasgow : Robert Stuart & Co; Ingram Street. . . MDCCCXL [ 1840. ] First edition. Pamphlet. 8vo. ( 208mm. ) Pp [5] viii - xi [2] 14 - 68. Wanting the half title. All three pamphlets are very clean and bright, No. 1 has the contemporary ink signaure of George Peel on the title page and his embossed bookplate on all the title pages. George Peel was a senior partner in Williams and Peel of Soho Foundry, Pollard Street, Manchester, they were iron and brass founders, forgemasters, makers of steam engines, boilers, hydraulic presses, mill gearing, etc. . No's 1 & 3 wanting their half title otherwise all three are complete. Recently expertly rebound in quarter calf over marbled paper backed boards and new endpapers, by Powley of Norwich. Clearly Mr. Peel was keeping a watching brief on the development of steam power in the first half of the nineteenth century. An interesting assemblage with all three pamphlets in near fine condition.
